The Continuum : Reclaiming ancient rhythms to shape the future of ageing
As an interior designer, my fascination with the intrinsic relationship between our external environment and inner world drives my passion for design. This enduring interest in the connection between the mind, body and built environment has led me to conceptualise spaces that offer intuitive and holistic solutions to elevate the human experience. With a strong eye for visual identity and aesthetics, I am particularly interested in how branding and interiors intersect to shape immersive and cohesive experiences that foster meaningful human connection. Through my multicultural background and strong interest in socially engaged design, I aim to contribute a unique perspective to practices that value thoughtful and intuitive approaches to positively transform our urban landscapes.
My final major project, The Continuum, proposes Stockport’s future civic hub for lifelong learning - a sustainable, systematic and intergenerational tool for successful ageing. Projected into 2075, the scheme envisages a future social climate of slowness and healing emerging in response to the pressures of an accelerated world. Designed as a ‘local living room’, The Continuum embeds itself within Stockport’s urban fabric to sustain the transmission of knowledge and preventative care across generations, enhancing quality of life in later years. The proposal positions successful ageing as something attained through both self-cultivation and communal learning.
Informed by the Roman wellness concept of ‘otium’, Passmore’s ‘three leisure typologies’ and ancient bio-materiality, the project draws upon ancient wisdom as a catalyst for continuity, sustaining the exchange of knowledge, experience and care across generations and timelines. Establishing a cyclic narrative between past, present and future, the scheme provokes the question of whether the past may hold the foundations for a more prosperous future.
