Blue Depths
Blue Depths is the upper part of a primary school with year groups 3-6; the children are ages 7-11. This project aims to create a learning space that supports children with ADHD so that they can learn as effectively as possible, while remaining inclusive, welcoming and beneficial for all pupils, not just those with ADHD.
The space encourages a strong sense of community among teachers, children and parents. Children can feel empowered rather than overwhelmed by the challenges of school life; they will feel like they can thrive and get the best out of their time here.
The concept of ‘Icebergs’ runs throughout almost every aspect of the space, physically and metaphorically. Physically, this is reflected through the sharp lines and iceberg shapes. Metaphorically, represented through the facade of the natural appearance of the plywood and greenery, and inside the learning space, pops of colour and texture and sensory engagement within.
The design has done its best to take into account accessibility, sustainability and creating a supportive and stimulating environment that balances functionality, wellbeing, and creativity.
