Joe Coke- MA Graphic Design and Art Direction
Project 26
Project 26 is an anthology of 26 projects exploring my creative practice across graphic design, art direction, branding, campaigns, fashion, and visual communication. I designed it to showcase that range while building my online presence and developing my personal brand, WRKSH0P.
The projects sit within five series, each with a different purpose. Work in Play makes room for spontaneity, humour and experimentation. Work in Theory translates theoretical frameworks into visual outcomes, testing how research can shape the work. Work in Brand explores how identities and brand worlds are built. Work in Industry responds to briefs I received from agencies and brands, while Work in Competition tests my practice against external briefs and deadlines.
Turning 26 this year, I wanted the project to record where I am in my practice and how I’ve grown as a creative. I also began shaping its five-part structure into a repeatable framework I could revisit or share with others. Drawing on my previous experience as a lecturer, I see this as a step towards bringing teaching back into my practice.
I look for unexpected angles in familiar things, using analysis, satire and deliberately strange ideas to make ambitious work that gets people laughing, questioning or looking again. WRKSH0P gives that work a life beyond the dissertation. It brings finished projects, experiments and ideas in progress into one online space, creating a record of where I’ve been, what I’m making now and where I might go next.
