Katie Macpherson- BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice
Material Marketing
My practice focuses on using textiles as a tool to build powerful brand identities and translating tactile visual language into compelling commercial campaigns. Central to this exploration is my role as a student brand ambassador for Swatch Editor, a position I was selected for by university staff. In this role, I focus on content creation on social media like TikTok and bridging the gap between physical and digital textiles. By translating the tactile experience into digital format, my work demonstrates how designs can be pitched and experienced within an increasingly digitalised market.
To complement this digital software, my physical collection integrates 3D-printed elements directly onto fabrics engineered for activewear. These 3D interventions add targeted compression and support, seamlessly blending functional materials with consumers' aesthetics. This innovation is communicated through a series of digital illustrations that elevate the 3D designs and utilising Swatch Editor's workflow to present designs.
Ultimately, my collection is consumer-facing and driven by a keen understanding of brand positioning, market trends and consumer behaviour. Creating textile campaigns where physical materiality and digital concepts co-exist.
