My Cosmos
Living between Taiwan and Manchester fosters a sense of contrast. It can be both confusing and uncertain, yet also calm and peaceful. These emotions are deeply personal and often difficult to articulate or share, as silence carries feelings held within our minds that never find expression.
Life resembles a rollercoaster, capable of reaching a peak or a trough in seconds, mirroring our constantly changing feelings—an unpredictable and unknown journey. Over time, I have embraced both insecurity and calmness as essential parts of my identity. They guide my creative process, transforming intangible emotions into tangible expressions.
The way I integrate different materials reflects this mix of emotions and shows how I approach making: it’s less about the intrinsic value of the materials and more about the story behind the work. These materials have encouraged me to step into unfamiliar territory and discover new ways to express emotion through form. Yet, I was fascinated by the moment when two materials meet and create a sense of chemistry between them, to an unknown and utopian journey.
I view the brooch as a notably neutral and versatile category of jewellery compared to other objects. It is more than just a pin with a clasp; its back structure mirrors the front design, fostering a dialogue between the two sides. This openness invites interpretation and emotional engagement. Consequently, I believe the brooch is the most fitting medium for expressing my ideas and sharing these personal experiences and emotions.
