It Takes A Village: Conversations about Women's Health

With a background in digital communications, storytelling, campaigning and advocacy, and as the founder of the multi-award-winning menstrual health awareness organisation Freja’s, I wanted to use my time during the MA in Design for Health & Wellbeing to explore a simple but significant question: how can we make it easier for women to talk openly about their health and ask for the support they need?

This question led to the development of It Takes A Village, a simple, easily adoptable tool designed to empower women to have meaningful conversations about their health and the support they need to thrive.

Co-designed with a group of mothers diagnosed with ADHD, It Takes A Village is a set of conversation-starter cards designed to enable meaningful, deeper conversations about the experience and impact of living with ADHD. The set includes 55 questions exploring the realities of ADHD, alongside Dive Deeper cards that give questioners the confidence to explore a topic further without fear of asking the wrong or inappropriate question. Creative prompts offer an alternative for people who feel more comfortable expressing themselves through creative activities.

While the prototype focuses on ADHD, the underlying framework and approach are designed to be applicable across a wide range of women’s health experiences, creating a flexible tool for opening up conversations, building understanding and get the support they need.
