Nicola Cutts- MA Graphic Design and Art Direction
Nicola Cutts is an illustrator and graphic designer with a love for playful, imaginative and expressive visual work. Her practice explores illustration of the natural world, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colours and textures found in nature.
Alongside her illustration practice, Cutts has experience working on editorial publications. She especially enjoys exploring how illustration can work alongside written content to communicate ideas and add personality. Through her final university project, Geo Kids, Cutts illustrated, wrote and designed an engaging environmental publication aimed at introducing children to the natural world.
Cutts works across both hand-drawn and digital illustration, enjoying the different qualities that each medium brings. She is particularly interested in combining traditional and digital processes, creating collages that bring together hand-drawn elements, digital imagery, textures and different forms of mark-making. This experimental approach allows her to create playful and layered compositions across a range of media. Her practice also includes watercolour, where she explores softer, more organic ways of capturing subjects from the natural world, selling her artwork as prints online and at markets.
