Material Commons
My practice explores how interior architecture can extend the life of existing buildings, materials and resources, with a particular interest in adaptive reuse, circularity and socially engaged design. I am interested in interiors not as finished objects, but as evolving environments shaped by making, repair, exchange and the people who use them.
My MA project, Material Commons, develops these interests through the adaptive reuse of an existing building in Manchester. The project proposes a circular making hub where materials can be collected, repaired, reused and redistributed, bringing processes that are often hidden within conventional material systems into public view. Workshops, material resources, spaces for research and learning, and shared social areas come together within an environment designed around participation and exchange.
Across my work, I am particularly interested in the relationship between material practice and human experience: how existing spaces can be reimagined rather than replaced, how design can encourage people to engage with materials differently, and how interiors can support more resourceful and collective ways of living and making.
