A View from the Penny Coffee

'A View From the Penny Coffee' is inspired by the Synthetic Cubist movement's use of abstraction and collage to represent multiple perspectives. The concept of seeing multiple viewpoints simultaneously led to the exploration of single piece garment patterns which underpins the collection. Each pattern includes all parts and views of the final garment in one flattened piece. Applying Clo3D to my pattern development has aided me in editing the large-scale patterns that result from this process. However, this has come with various limitations. When using Clo3D in my practice I had to find solutions to allow the folding of larger pattern pieces across multiple planes, rather than into the tubes created by conventional cutting. I also had to troubleshoot issues with darts. To counter this I have had to separate patterns into multiple smaller pieces to then reassemble them after they are draped around the body. I have had to ultimately remove darts and operate on the pieces separately to edit garment fit before reinserting them in the final reassembly process. This can be seen in the linked video. The final looks apply this creative, digital pattern cutting process to produce subverted traditional garments for an older, affluent consumer. A man who quietly values creativity and moves in a world of gallery openings and art auctions.

I am looking for work in 3D design or pattern cutting, specifically in luxury or bespoke menswear.
