Olivia Taberner- MA Illustration
I am an artist, maker and illustrator from Wigan whose background in embroidery has encouraged a textural, handmade approach to my current practice. My wide reaching skillset allows for interdisciplinary experimentation to come naturally and keeps my projects exciting. I’m interested in material culture and how our objects shape our lives. Especially the items we use everyday that often go unnoticed; I created large scale versions of my art tools through Art School Commissions and another set to advertise the Undergraduate Degree Show in the window of Fred Aldous.
During my Synthesis project my practice found a new focus in drypoint etching on up-cycled packaging. Sustainability is a main factor of my work and continues to impact my material and subject choices, this final body of work delved into Emotional Durability and how building deeper connections with our things might guide us to a more sustainable future. Whilst documenting a time of change whilst I moved from my bedroom studio into an artist residency.
I want the work I create to feel accessible to everyone; my role at arts organisation ‘Everyday’ ensures community is at the heart of all that I do whilst giving me valuable experience in workshop delivery with all ages of participants. I believe that everyone is an artist and I want the work that I make to encourage this within my community and beyond.
