La Moon

La Moon is a lounge chair designed to support older Gen Zs navigating the transition into adulthood through subtle and meaningful moments of play. The name derives from the Thai word “ละมุน” (lamoon), which describes a feeling of softness, gentleness, warmth, and emotional comfort, qualities that form the foundation of the project’s intention and experience. The name also references the chair’s crescent moon-inspired form, reflecting both its visual identity and calming presence.

Rooted in the growing pressures of “adulting”, including burnout, emotional fatigue, and the increasing demand for productivity, the project explores how design can encourage pause, comfort, and gentle interaction within everyday domestic life. Rather than presenting play as something loud or childish, La Moon integrates it quietly through movement and experience.

The chair’s gentle rocking motion introduces a calming interaction that emerges naturally through use, encouraging moments of rest, reflection, and sensory engagement during daily routines. Unlike conventional lounge chairs, La Moon has been intentionally designed for smaller living spaces, responding to the realities of contemporary adult living. As many younger adults navigate compact apartments, shared housing, and limited personal space, the chair responds by offering comfort and relaxation without requiring a large environment.

Ultimately, La Moon challenges the idea that adulthood and play must exist separately. Instead, it proposes that softness, curiosity, and small moments of joy can become meaningful forms of support within modern adult life.
