Rachel Bryan- BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice
SOMEWHERE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE...
I am a textile designer specialising in knit, with experience across Domestic and Dubied knitting machines as well as Shima Seiki programming. My practice focuses around the exploration of colour, pattern and texture, often drawing inspiration from photography, personal observations and everyday visual references. I am particularly interested in translating visual research into thoughtful knitted outcomes that are both tactile and visually engaging.
Somewhere in the countryside was inspired by childhood memories of family walks. Throughout this project, I explored themes of memory and place to identify motifs which were translated through knit using colour, texture and pattern. This aided me to create work that feels both personal and evocative. I imagined this through a photoshoot of my knitted outcomes on the body, allowing me to explore their playful qualities and consider how they might be experienced through movement, interaction and wear. The images helped bring the project to life encouraging reflection and nostalgia.
