INTERLUDE

Where does the body find pause within the social rhythms of the city?

INTERLUDE reimagines dining as a sensory journey composed through gradients of intensity, pause, and release. Rooted in neuroinclusive design and sensory branding, the project explores how hospitality environments can move beyond spectacle to become spaces of comfort, adaptability, and emotional connection.

In contemporary dining culture, stimulation is often celebrated - noise, spectacle, movement, and constant engagement. Yet for many, these environments can become overwhelming rather than welcoming. INTERLUDE responds by designing for sensory awareness rather than sensory excess, creating spaces that encourage choice, modulation, and moments of retreat.

Framed through the idea of ‘choosing your pace’, the project unfolds as a sequence of atmospheric environments that allow individuals to move, pause, and engage within their own rhythm. Through materiality, acoustics, lighting, and spatial sequencing, moments of immersion soften into moments of stillness, supporting both social interaction and sensory recovery.

Positioned within the urban rhythm of Stockport, INTERLUDE becomes both threshold and refuge - a quiet choreography of space that invites the body to slow, reconnect, and breathe. Rather than designing for spectacle alone, the project explores how hospitality can foster comfort, belonging, and emotional connection through the subtle dialogue of the senses.
