Callum Niall Flynn
BA (Hons) Filmmaking
I am a filmmaker who is constantly looking to evolve my style and to not be constrained to one genre . Throughout my time in university, I have jumped back and forth from works of fiction too documentary. In my first year, I made a documentary that explored the skateboard culture in England entitled " A good day to Skate". In 2nd year I made two documentaries the first entitled " The Mancubians which explored the story of the Latin Band. Also during this period I also created my personal film " Perspective From the Spectrum" This film was the first time I had talked publicly about Autistic. The film has a mix of my mum's narration, home video footage, and myself discussing the stereotypes of being autistic and my relationship with being on the spectrum.
Fiction Wise I have written two films the first being a hyperrealist horror comedy entitled "Growth!". The film is about Charlie Newman a self-help therapist with no inner self-confidence. The second film I have written as well as directed is called " Is This It" My aim for this film was to create a story that showcases modern-day issues through the eyes of complex characters. Is This It? is a social realist film that delves into the tumultuous relationship between Thomas Anderson and his Father Damon as their tensions escalate to a breaking point. The film explores themes such as the cost of living crisis, estranged relationships, and how our relationship with our parents impacts our descions in life.
