Group of Lions [5]
Charlotte Donna Pickering is a Manchester based artist whose work focuses on building relationships through their practice and exploring the archival nature of art. Through analogue photographic practices and traditional bookbinding methods, Pickering values the tactile aspects of art as they believe the intimacy of physical pieces contributes to the work. Behind the gaze of a working-class, queer background Pickering examines their own perception and how this may affect their practice. For the project 'Group of Lions [5]' Pickering worked with the Manchester based Out In The City to capture portraits of the LGBTQ+ support group for those over 50 years of age. Pickering sees the final piece as a collaboration with the members of the group as opposed to a solo project. With limited digital presence, Group of Lions [5] is a collection of c-type darkroom prints in handcrafted frames accompanied by a handbound book of test strips.
