Yours Faithfully
Creating mainly social documentary work through traditional documentary style images and portraits, the basis of my practice surrounds identity and culture. The work in this exhibition 'Yours Faithfully' explores these two themes. Speaking to people from different faiths, I wanted to explore what it meant to be faithful and what it was that made these people turn to the idea of faith. Creating a mixture of portraits from those involved and images from the places of worship I visited, alongside letters from the individuals involved, I wanted to build up a pictire of the idea of faith and what it meant to each person. I have often felt that the idea of faith, for some reason, is a bit of a taboo with people reluctant to speak about it or even say if they have a faith. So, throghout the past months, I have been visiting different places of worship and speaking to people from all walks of life to understand their journey. The images you see are a pick of some of these pieces of work coming together. I approached this as an outsiuder and created this work from the point of view of an outsider looking in with the idea that the project is presented to the people who view it in the same way.
