Hazel Davies
BA (Hons) Filmmaking
I have always been captivated by the power of storytelling and its ability to connect people on a deeply human level. Throughout my creative journey, I have come to realize that the essence of impactful filmmaking lies in capturing the rawness of humanity and presenting it with authenticity. As a result, my work focuses on realistic relationships and characters, aiming to somewhat bridge the gap between documentary and narrative film. Over the course of this degree, this has been reflected in the short films I have created since being at university, all of which deal with difficult, real experiences. My graduate film 'Don't Wake Me Up' tells the story of a final conversation between a recently separated couple on their last night together before parting ways. This film in particular allowed me to explore realistic dialogue within an inherently dramatic scenario, as well as how to cultivate intimacy between actors.
Humanity lies at the core of every story I tell. As a writer and director, my influences have been drawn from my own experiences as well as of those around me. I believe that through telling genuine stories, we can foster a greater sense of empathy and understanding among diverse audiences. It allows us to confront the complexities and challenges of the world head-on, sparking important conversations and inspiring positive change. I have aimed to bring this ethos into my position as a freelance creative at Brickhouse Productions, and I have always pitched ideas that allow this human vulnerability to shine through.
In pursuing my passion for filmmaking, I have honed my skills in various aspects of the craft, including directing, screenwriting, and cinematography. I continuously seek to refine my abilities and push the boundaries of storytelling, and I’m excited to see where this path takes me next.
