My work depicts fictional objects based on forms in the natural landscape. They come from a process of abstraction – drawing, clay, and plaster all contribute to the repetition that mimics the cyclicity of nature. The drawings are fluid ways of developing my observations, whilst the plaster fixes them in material and time.
They are a reflection of how I perceive my environment, analysing my surroundings in case I come across a shape that captures my interest. Investigating the contrast between manmade and organic forms, my sculptures explore the disparity between the temporality of nature and the permanence of plaster. The slabs are solid, with imprints reminiscent of archaeological finds preserved in a museum, whilst the drawings contain different lines and textures that produce recordings of human gesture. Each one contains traces of small landscapes that convey a history confined within a rectangular frame.
