Sophie Smart - BA (Hons) Textiles In Practice
I am a knitted textile designer - I really enjoy experimenting with knit techniques pushing and them to the limits.
My project focuses on creating sensory and textured knit samples that are intended for a variety of interior products or installations that evoke playfulness and aim to captivate. I entended for my work be very tactile and playful experimenting with scale, different types of yarns and stuffing. My aim for this project was to intertwine biophilic design which is the idea of bringing the outdoors in and doing this by integrating elements of nature into my knits. My inspiration comes from plants and nature, known for their stress-relieving qualities, my aims to intertwine these natural motifs into the fabric of my designs using things like pinecone spikes as inspiration to create texture.
