BIRDS

My name is Abigail Bates-Thompson, and I am a visually impaired wildlife photographer whose practice challenges conventional expectations of both disability and nature photography. Through a patient, intuitive approach, I aim to demonstrate that meaningful, impactful imagery can be created beyond traditional visual norms.

My work focuses on documenting birds and mammals across the UK, building a cohesive body of work that celebrates the richness and diversity of our native wildlife. At the heart of this project is a commitment to raising awareness of endangered species and the urgent need for conservation. By closely observing animal behaviour, habitats, and atmosphere, my photographs capture not only the presence of these creatures but also the vulnerability of the ecosystems they depend on.

I share my work through digital platforms and exhibitions, inviting audiences to rethink their relationship with the natural world. By combining creative practice with environmental advocacy, I aim to drive action for wildlife protection, while also championing greater inclusivity and representation within the creative industries.
