Alison Travis- BA (Hons) Fine Art
The spider is an invader of the home, their mere existence unsettles and disturbs. Hiding in corners, under chairs and crawling over curtains, creating fear and panic when they emerge. Fascinated with the overlooked and those considered grotesque or disgusting, Alison Travis explores the spider as a symbol of the other: merging the symbol of the spider with mundane domestic objects, blending fear and the familiar. Sawing, welding, bending and hammering she uses woodwork and metal work to make sculptures that both invade the space as well as belong within it.
