The Nightmare Collection

Benji is a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, and performer, with a passion for music that transcends genre and medium. Since starting his musical career with different roles in various bands, he has gone on to create and record his own work within his time at MMU. He is inspired by many different acts from a variety of genres including bands like Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, Refused, and Turnstile, to artists like Johnny Cash, Billie Eilish, Jerry Reed, and John Mayer. Benji’s love of video games and film is also a huge part of his inspiration, with favourites including Silent Hill, Resident Evil, The Evil Dead, and The Thing. This range of influences have motivated Benji to pursue a career in composing for different media, alongside creating his own solo work.

Benji’s final project is called The Nightmare Collection. The project aims to display four distinct types of horror through different musical genres in order to demonstrate Benji’s proficiency as a musician and composer.

Between Space And Memory: Eerie and dreamlike, the song focuses on the dread and melancholy brought up by liminal spaces and the backrooms. Inspired by TV Girl, Instupendo, and Akira Yamaoka.

Carnography: A heavy, industrial track representing the gory thrill of the splatter-film genre through harsh synths and drums. Nine Inch Nails, Saw, Hostel, and The Evil Within all serve as the track’s inspiration.

Cry Of The Woods: Based on folk horror and cryptid folklore, this composition aims to encapsulate the atmosphere of traversing through an eerie forest as featured in such stories. Influences include The Blair Witch, The Ritual, and Darkwood.

Itchy Tasty: A celebration of the fun, campy side of horror that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Primus, Rob Zombie, and The Evil Dead II were huge influences throughout the track’s creation.
