Behind Closed Eyes

‘Behind Closed Eyes’ is a photographic series that represents the inner human experiences some may encounter throughout life. It draws on mental health conditions such as depression, sleep paralysis, and childhood trauma as influences that help shape this concept. The work explores how the mind can alter and distort our perception of reality.

This body of work displays a series of images that express my interpretation of these conditions. Drawing on my interests in cinema and contemporary photography, I use these artistic influences to construct and visualise psychological states within staged narrative settings. The use of light reflects our yearning for growth and change, whilst shadow symbolises the emotional weight we carry.
