The Disposal Guy
Hi, I’m Daniel, and over the past year I have specialised in sound design. My interest in music and audio began at an early age through playing drums, which led to performing live and recording in professional studios, most notably at Abbey Road Studios. These experiences developed both my technical understanding of sound and my interest in applying it within film.
Soundscapes play a vital role in shaping an audience’s immersion and connection to a project, from score and dialogue, to foley and environmental ambience, every sound matters. The Disposal Guy provided an opportunity to further develop my skills through creating a sonic landscape inspired by the aesthetics of early 2000s video games. The era was defined by the technical limitations of early digital technology, resulting in distinctive characteristics such as low bitrates, compression, and reduced textures that give it that crunchy feel.
Reflecting on the finished project, I believe we created a unique audiovisual experience that authentically blends the language of film with the identity of retro gaming and Y2K culture.
The Disposal Guy can be viewed in SODA 2.15 on a CRT television installation as part of the degree show.
