Emre Erkul- BA (Hons) Music and Sound Design
Mech Synth
After a severe electrical accident left him temporarily paralyzed, Emre Erkul awoke from his coma believing he had spent 6 months as transistor in a 1975 Moog System 55 analogue synthesizer. In his diary he wrote, ‘I felt so deeply the electrical currents rush through my nervous system. All at once it became apparent, I was truly one with the machine.’
Personal accounts from his mother disclose his frustration upon awakening in the hospital bed. He quickly injected himself with a substantial quantity of Propofol (a rapid-acting intravenous anaesthetic) in an attempt to return ‘home’ whilst his primary nurse had her back turned.
Upon his discharge, Emre quit his job and made it his life goal to re-ignite the relationship between man, machine and music. He now lives on the breadline, building sonic devices with whatever he can get his hands on. His most recent contraption, a mechanical drone synthesizer.
