Figurative Explorations
Drawn from a state of compulsion, my paintings explore an innate curiosity for the unconventional figurative form within a fixed composition. Through ape-like, stoic appendages and fluid amalgamations of vivid colour and form, a figure is brought forth from my mind and bound to a metaphysical realm. I love to explore layering and richness through gestural application of paint and glazing, trusting instinctual and painterly brushwork. Obsessive repetition of arches and arrangement stem from an innate curiosity for the afterlife, whilst the disfiguration aims to challenge the viewer’s relationship with the body in both a spiritual and evolutionary context.
