Katie Byrne is a sculptural artists with a fascination in ancient ceramics, taking inspiration from prehistoric methods of ceramic production within her own work by collecting wild clays and foraging natural glaze materials. Rooted in an innate desire to escape the overwhelming negativity of today’s sociopolitical climate, her practice narrates a tale of archaeological fiction, imagining a long-lost civilisation in which the people live in peaceful coexistence with the natural world. Through the fabrication of her own ceramic "artefacts" she intends to create a sense of wonder within her audience and encourage their belief in her aspirational fiction if only for the duration of their interaction with it.
