Authenticity versus Approval
My painting practice explores masculinity as something mutable, relational, and quietly lived rather than performed. Rooted in personal experiences of grief, sexuality, shame, and emotional introspection following the death of my father, my work examines how identity is shaped through memory, care, and vulnerability. Through softened figuration, erasure, and restrained compositions, I depict men in moments of stillness, proximity, and reflection. Rejecting heroic or dominant representations of manhood, I seek to create intimate spaces where tenderness and uncertainty can exist without shame, repositioning masculinity as ethical, fragile, and emotionally attentive but still growing and explored.
