Birthday Boy

Growing up in a place where creativity often felt out of reach, Leo found that moving to Manchester to study at Manchester Metropolitan University gave him the space to explore his artistic voice and fully immerse himself in filmmaking. What began as a passion for photography evolved into a love of cinematography, driven by a fascination with how images can shape emotion, atmosphere, and story.

His work is bold, textured, and gritty, drawing inspiration from cinematographers such as Christopher Doyle, Robbie Ryan, and Néstor Almendros. Through strong lighting and a love of 16mm film, he seeks to create immersive and emotionally resonant imagery.

He was drawn to Birthday Boy for its dark, gritty tone and compelling narrative arc, which provided opportunities to experiment with a range of cinematic techniques to reflect the emotions of the story. The project's ambition and collaborative spirit also appealed to him, allowing him to work closely with each department to help bring a shared creative vision to life.
