Transitions of Touch
I am a multi-disciplinary creative, always sprinkling playful humour into projects, whether through materials, scale or movement. My practice sits at the intersection of material exploration, human-centred accessible design, and holistic sustainability strategy. I work across both digital and physical making, from programming industrial Shima Seiki and domestic knitting machines, to stop motion animation and XR prototyping.
My Degree Show project, Transitions of Touch, was inspired by the erosion of materials in everyday analogue wear and tear. The structures that are exposed due to this abrasion, and their patterns, became the focus of my investigation; I aimed to capture the humanity and stories within our personal catalogues of clothing. I also wanted to portray these findings in a humorous light, which led to the development of my illustrative character animations. Knit structures and designs were then informed by this research, bringing the process full circle and intentionally causing patterned erosion to material samples tied to my shoes.
In addition to my course, I took part in Art School Commissions as part of a group collaboration. ‘The Sleepy Zine’ is a community project built by five art and design students. A zine big enough to sleep in! Its sheets are filled with work gathered locally and from afar, collected through open calls and a variety of workshops.
