Neuroscrap
I am a neurodivergent sculptor who specialises in metalsmithing and woodwork. Through my works assemblage, I aim to highlight the complexities of neurodivergent creativity and self-expression. My sculptures are contextualised by a different set of cogs from most, presenting my own worldview as a neurodivergent maker.
My creative process works backwards from what you might expect. I find empowerment in my ability to transform discarded materials into sculptures. While I never begin a new forage for broken parts with a specific idea in mind, my curiosity for the old and forgotten often leads me to a complete concept. This divergent process has often allowed me to recognise potential in what others ignore.
In this way, nothing is ever as it seems: a door handle becomes part of a robot’s knee, and a broken pair of glasses transforms into beetle antennae. Objects come to life through a combination of physical exploration and autistic self-reclamation. From the initial gathering of objects to the construction of their ultimate sculptural forms, I find great satisfaction in the journey.
I am deeply passionate about repurposing found objects, which I often find at car boot sales, bins, and scrapyards. I feel instinctively drawn to items that appear particularly overlooked, damaged, or forgotten.
