Working across cyanotype, photo-manipulation and layering, Martyna’s practice draws on autobiographical memory. Using images of the home and objects from a childhood influenced by Polish heritage, her recent work extends beyond the singular pictorial frame, spilling out onto bedsheets, paper and card. Looking to observe and document human experience, forms dissolve into one another, resisting narrowed interpretation. The work does not seek to recover the past or capture the present but to overlap memories. It reaches towards a quietness – of passing time, growing up and reconnecting to oneself through layers of fragmented memories.
