Memento Mori, Memento Vivere

Memento Mori, Memento Vivere explores the idea that life and death are universal experiences that should connect humanity rather than divide us. Drawing on religious and philosophical symbolism, the project creates a contemplative space in which viewers are invited to reflect on their own memories and emotional responses when engaging with these abstracted images.

The integration of metal into the project is a vital feature of the work, using its reflective nature in order to construct the liminal space between life and death. Here, the photographs are transformed into three-dimensional objects that further prompt the viewer to immerse themselves in this microcosm. Drawing from her own personal battle with loss whilst welcoming a new life into the world, Nicole Isaacson presents an alternative perspective of our everyday life, reminding us to appreciate the beauty of our environment whilst also taking us on a journey of emotional resonance. Ultimately leaving us questioning the title, ‘Remember to Die, Remember to Live’.
