As an interdisciplinary conceptual artist, Sara Yaseen Mahmood demonstrates the power we have in our bodies to connect with deeper layers of ourselves and others through her embodied practice. Electromagnetic fields in the human heart are 100 times stronger than the brain; she deconstructs this powerful organ whilst focusing on breathwork and finding presence when glassblowing. Pushing her physical limits, she tracks her heartrate, exposing her unconscious internal rhythms while absorbed in keeping this molten material alive. Fusing glass and ceramics, intuitive experimentation develops personal rituals and techniques. Pulling soft slabs against her skin and sculpting veins of frit from her wrists she imbues herself into each material. Blown lustre covered arteries and chambers, twist and coil infused with her somatic memory. The imaginal body is expanded as a self-portrait.
