Nisha Kapur
BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice

The British Punjab

As a practitioner, I specialise in surface print with a focus on wallpaper design. Throughout my course, I have looked at my Indian background and identity as a British Hindu Punjabi for context and inspiration. While I do take inspiration from traditional Indian textiles such as Phulkari (Punjabi embroidery technique), and Chintz, my more meaningful context comes from looking back at old family photos and my own experiences growing up as a British Indian. My process often involves scanning my motifs and digitally putting them in repeat using Adobe software. I also enjoy using the traditional printing techniques of block printing, and screen printing especially when embellishing with flock or foil.
