Held by a desire to stay within fleeting moments, Abi Burhouse’s work translates and materialises her immersion in natural phenomena into slowed and suspended visual forms. Her practice spans expanded painting, macro photography and glass work, driven by a captivation with transient in-between states like sunlight spilling through a window or light catching at the edge of a surface, seeking to extend these present moments into forms that feel alive within their stillness, as if caught mid current.

This fascination with light has naturally developed with crystal macro photography, influenced by her familial upbringing around crystals and semi-precious stones, Abi’s practice has increasingly expanded through these forms, compelling her to harness the beauty of them using abstraction.

Shifting and magnifying how these objects are perceived feels like a quiet resistance against rapid screen-based imagery that dominates our culture today. Instead of instant visual consumption, the work invites a slower more embodied viewing experience, grounded in nature encouraging a contemplative presence within the physical space.
