Born Trippy

Born Trippy is an immersive exhibition that dives into the theme of 'clubbing as a ritual'. For decades, clubbing has been an important part of people's lives, allowing close, tight-knit communities and relationships to form. Behind closed doors, people have been able to escape normality, fully express themselves and build connections.

For my exhibition, I intend to bring together elements to recreate a club-scene, lights, music, visuals etc. The projections will be the focal point of my work. Using songs from a variety of different artists, I have created projections made up of audio-reactive visuals, reacting to my chosen songs. These will then be projected around the space, allowing people to move through, listen to and watch the work on display. I have also set up an interactive element, allowing audience interaction. I have created a camera displacement network, connected to a camera, linked to a TV. This then allows the audience to interact with and move in front of the camera, ultimately becoming part of the exhibition. The camera displacement network has a trippy, distorted effect, giving the impression of being in a club.

As part of my research, I delved into the idea of 'rituals' and how important they are. Rituals help to bring communities together, binding individuals. They allow these tight-knit communities to survive and prosper, in all different kinds of environments. I see clubbing as a modern-day ritual that is carried out by and important to so many indivuduals.
