My creative practice as an moving-image artist and experimental filmmaker mainly explores concepts of Nostalgia and Memory, working primarily with analogue formats such as Super 8 film, archival negatives and different mixed - media techniques. I also enjoy collaborating with different practices such as music video making, hoping to continue exploring and creating more in the future.

My final project 'Those Molten Years', is a double-screen installation exploring the concepts of Restorative and Reflective Nostalgia derived from artist Svetlana Boym. My work examines how memory can be reconstructed, exploring the tensions between imperfect remembrance and preservation. Navigating these concepts into the context of my own experiences, I decontextualised my own childhood photos with processes such as film soup and other forms of material destruction. I am particularly drawn to the imperfections present within analogue media; intentionally embracing them as a point of principle, together forming the imperfect process of remembrance.

My two screens are accompanied by a soundtrack, produced by Lewis Williams and myself, involving a build-up of various ambient textures, recorded on a Tascam 38. Experimenting with analogue sound was just as important as the visual side, as it can affect memory in ways physical images alone may not. Ultimately, I wanted this piece to encourage viewers to unfold their own experiences of Nostalgia. By using various sound elements including recognisable rhythms, distorted voices and sounds of nature - it can deepen immersion by triggering personal and collective memory.
