Until Failure
Until Failure is a photographic project exploring the relationship between landscape, hope, and emotional resilience. The title draws from the language of gym culture, where “until failure” describes the act of pushing beyond one’s limits before resting and beginning again. Within the context of this work, the phrase becomes a metaphor for persistence, reflection, and renewal, suggesting that moments of difficulty can also create opportunities for growth and re-engagement with the world around us.
Through what photographer Caley describes as “Portraits of the Landscape,” the project reframes the landscape not as something distant or monumental, but as something emotionally present and deeply connected to human experience. By revisiting familiar locations and working attentively with natural light, particularly moments of warmth and sunlight, the images seek to uncover subtle instances of optimism embedded within everyday environments.
The work encourages a slower and more reflective mode of looking, inviting viewers to reconsider how they engage with the spaces around them. Rather than presenting hope as something dramatic or idealised, Until Failure focuses on quieter moments of connection, suggesting that beauty, comfort, and optimism continue to exist within the ordinary if we remain open and attentive to them.
