May Huaraka is a filmmaker from London who specialises within writing, directing, and editing. Drawn towards art which blends the surreal with the naturalistic as well as styles of verbatim filmmaking. She leans towards a bittersweet melancholic mood, often experimenting across genres and modes to reflect intimate portrayals of life. 

Culling:

Her major film, Culling, is a narrative folk drama which she directed, co-wrote, and edited. Culling explores the effects of post-partum psychosis through a 17th century lens and considers the repercussions of othering which are representative in our society today.

In collaboration with Director Niamh Pettitt, May’s editing presents the journey of grief, love, and acceptance through a multi-screen installation. A physical performance piece navigating childhood trauma and the trials of letting go along the Northeast coastline.
