Tanya Magesh- BA (Hons) Fine Art
My practice is an archaeology of memory. It is the recovery of fragmented, fading and amorphous moments from my past, by piecing them together like a jigsaw puzzle. Through my work, I excavate memories, revealing parts of my identity I had almost forgotten, and translate them into material remains.
But like most material things, memories, too, are constantly changing; they smudge, fray, and even break. Using graphite drawings, intentionally chosen objects, and unfired terracotta, I mirror this instability by preserving my recollections and transforming them into tangible artefacts not of fixed truths, but of shifting impressions of my identity and my experience of being Tamil.
