Shot in Blackpool through the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic Pool of Light is a photographic series that documents this usually well-populated and well illuminated seaside resort in a paralleled time of isolation and darkness.
By photographing exclusively at night, and visually inspired by modern horror, sci-fi film and cinematography, Lauren Quarmby focuses on capturing images that heighten the same sense of emptiness and silence she felt throughout her hometown. Through experimental use of artificial, coloured lighting, both in the imagery and exhibition display, Pool of Light aims to showcase this town of illumination, through a time of isolation.
