Joseph Phenix BA (Hons) Filmmaking
I am a videographer/editor based in Manchester. The main focus of my practice is live music videography. This has come in the form of my work with the Manchester-based media collective 'The Yard'. My work with The Yard over the past year has mostly been in the form of music live-streams. We have worked with a plethora of talented musicians and artists from in and around Manchester to produce high-quality, live-streamed concerts. As well as working with bands and artists, we have also recently worked with NQ Jazz. The work we did with NQ Jazz was extremely diverse as we colaborated with some of the best Jazz and World Music musicians the genres have to offer. As well as working with The Yard, I have also worked on live-streams at Halle St. Peter's with Psappha.
Another part of my practice is narrative-based film. I recently worked on the short 'I Love You, Julie', a film about a Lesley, a man in love with a woman who may or may not exist. As editor, I enjoy being able to have control of the structure an pace of a piece, two very important factors. As well as working as an editor on 'I Love You, Julie', I have recently worked as an ADR recordist on a BFI-produced film. Working with sound was a new challenge for me but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am hoping to broaden my practice in the future as part of the production collective, Chaos Collective. Coinciding with the virtual showcase, we produced a graduate film event that showcases a select few short films from our course's last module. In the future, we are planning to host film nights at The Yard. Programming and curating film events is something I have always been extremely interested in and I am very much looking forward to organising these events.
