Welcome to the BA (Hons) Filmmaking digital showcase 2021.

Filmmaking students are a vibrant community of inventive thinkers, spirited collaborators and skilled innovators. Encouraged to find and define their voice and vision in filmmaking within a supportive and creative cross-disciplinary community of practitioners, our students look inside themselves to create powerfully personal storytelling, connecting these stories to the world around them in exciting and meaningful ways. Always questioning the boundaries of practice to materialise their ideas, Filmmaking students are inveterate problem solvers, working together in a spirit of exploration and collaboration.

This year, Filmmaking students and their community of practice have been sorely tested: their final year has not been the one they had dreamed of and prepared for. Yet despite the impact of the pandemic, our students’ resilience, imagination, sense of ambition and incredibly good humour have shone through at every level in the creation of exciting new approaches to storytelling and moving image practice. In addition, many of our third years haven’t let the pandemic stop them being professionally active and proactive - connecting with industry, crafting intercultural networks and carving out their careers. This has included external commissions and live briefs, collaborations with students from California Institute of the Arts, innovative online event programming in partnership with the Holden Gallery and forming their own production company Chaos Collective. We congratulate our graduating students on their commitment, dedication and ambition during this challenging year and wish them every deserved success in their future career paths.
