Kathryn Baker BA (Hons) Interior Design
My design ethos is to approach the brief conceptually, to deliver designs that offer an elevated perception and experience of space. I design spaces through detailed exploration of styles and materials to provide unique outcomes that offer functionality with textured and eclectic details and materiality.
Hatch Micro. is a micro hotel concept which challenges the status quo of conventional hotel accommodation in Manchester. It has a minimal aesthetic with a focus on compact yet flexible and adaptable design to maximise space. Private pod rooms provide privacy from the rest of the accommodation.
The concept for Hatch Micro. has been developed from Ancoats Co. - a co-working and co-living space located within Ancoats, Manchester. The purpose of Ancoats Co. is to tackle loneliness in a post-Covid world by creating a supportive community that encourages people to stay socially-active and engaged, to unlock future happiness.
Hatch Micro. offers a budget friendly, convenient, community-orientated destination aimed at Millennials and remote workers seeking short stay accommodation in the city. The accommodation celebrates the lively surroundings that Hatch provides. Use of sustainable materials allows Hatch Micro. to integrate within the courtyard of eclectically coloured shipping containers home to creative studio spaces, independent businesses, restaurants and bars. Through this project I have explored commercial design, detailing and project development.
