My paintings explore and exaggerate characters and I aim to create a narrative that extends beyond the canvas. I have always loved people watching, I notice characteristics and situations and like to embroider their stories with an aim to create a narrative sometimes menacing and sometimes whimsical. I look at stories told, but more importantly those that are untold. Utilising themes of humour and toying with the realms of the sinister, I create both portraits and figurative paintings exploring ideas of connections, care and control. Using a flat painting style and simplified and exaggerated characters adds to the narrative of fantasy and the idea of distortion within reality. The paintings tell stories; based around both the characters within the painting but also what continues outside of the paintings, utilising anonymous figures with an aim to create a narrative that continues beyond the frame.
