Phoebe Grace Watson BA (Hons) Textiles in Practice
I am a passionate textile designer specialising in surface pattern design for interiors. My work is inspired by my appreciation for beautiful interior decoration, playful colour, and hand drawn illustrations. I love experimenting with different scales, throughout my final year I have painted large-scale mural designs, as well as wallpaper and fabric pattern designs for the home.
Maintaining the hand painted essence within my work is a key aspect of my design handwriting style. I enjoy gathering inspiration from nature to form adventurous colour palettes, whilst creating exciting concepts for my designs with a specific audience in mind. Inspiration for recent projects have derived from my personal experience of travelling the world, biophilic design and the symbolism within chinoiserie art.
My final project ‘Shen Gardens’ was inspired by the symbolism within traditional chinoiserie art. I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the depths of Chinese symbolism and incorporating these influences into my work. Maintaining the historical characteristics of chinoiserie art was incredibly important to me. I contextualised my designs within seasonal wedding ceremonies and bridal suites, and the name ‘Shen Gardens’ derived from a famous love garden in China. I believe that each individual design I carefully create tells a beautiful, unique story.
